Diabetes mellitus symptoms

Have you been wondering if you might be developing diabetes? Unfortunately, diabetes is becoming a very major problem, especially in America.

A big part of this problem is that obesity has become such a huge problem, and obesity is one of the most common risk factors for diabetes. Even more alarming, many people that develop that diabetes go for years without knowing that they have the disease.

So what are some of the most common diabetes mellitus symptoms? And which ones are the most tell-tale sign of diabetes?

The most common symptom that many people associate with diabetes mellitus is almost non stop thirst. The reason that you become more and more thirsty as your diabetes gets worse is that your muscles absorb the sugar that isn't processed, which is hydroscopic.

Because the sugars are hydroscopic, your tissues need to absorb more water; which is what makes you so thirsty all the time. Because your body actually does need more fluid, it is extremely important that you do not ignore this thirsty feeling.

Try and have juice or water, but avoid coffee are soda because the caffeine only make you more thirsty, and will also act as a diuretic (which means your body will absorb less water).

Another one of the more common diabetes mellitus symptoms is frequent urination. This goes hand in hand with the problem of increased thirst. Since you're drinking more fluids to keep your tissues properly hydrated, it only makes sense that you have to use the restroom more.

Again, do not ignore these feelings! If you feel that you need to use the restroom, don't try and hold it. This can cause serious kidney problems, and in men it will cause severe prostate problems as well.

As it gets more severe, your diabetes mellitus symptoms will get worse. For example, over time your vision will start to get blurry. While this can be fixed in most cases, in severe cases it can cause permanent blindness.

Because of this, if you start to have blurry vision along with increased thirst and more frequent urination, make sure and go to the doctor before your symptoms get any worse. Even if you do not have any more diabetes mellitus symptoms, the doctor can help figure out what you do have before you experience any other problems.

As with most diseases, the main thing to keep in mind is to be cautious and conservative. If you're experiencing these symptoms but only to a limited degree, don't just wait for them to go away.

Try and make an appointment to get yourself checked out as quickly as possible, before your symptoms can get any worse or become more difficult to control.

Even though most diabetes mellitus symptoms are common to many different things, you can never be too careful. Especially since so many people have diabetes for several years before their dying most, it becomes more and more difficult to control the longer that you let it go.

With all of that being said, don't get yourself panicked over nothing. After all, sometimes you just get really thirsty. When you get really thirsty; you drink a lot, and then you have to go to the restroom.

That doesn't necessarily mean that you have diabetes; what matters is how often you have those symptoms. If it's only during the summer on hot days, you probably don't have anything to worry about. If it's almost every day for two weeks or more, that's when you really need to start worrying about consulting with a physician.
